With such high demand for places to stay in Tofino, recent years have seen a development of nearly any kind of accommodation imaginable in the quaint surf-town. From camping, hostels and hotels to ritzy resorts, finding the style to suit your needs should be a breeze. The key to securing a place to stay in Tofino, however, is booking in advance – especially for June-August/September. If the accommodation in Tofino becomes too costly or is all booked up, you may also find availability in Ucluelet, which is 30 minutes south.
The summer months find Tofino bustling with tourists, jacking up prices and putting pressure on the demand for accommodation. Although the prices can be substantial for a visit in the summer, it is easily the most popular time to pay the small town a visit. The weather is predictable and consistently sunny, and the waves that make Tofino one of the best places to learn how to surf roll into the beaches during the summer months. Note that last-minute deals aren’t unheard of, so a flexible schedule can lead to a more budget-friendly experience.

The winter season brings with it a different type of crowd. Tofino’s winter waves are well suited for seasoned surfers who brave the cold in search of larger, more powerful swells. Storm watching season from November-March is a highlight, where winds of up to 70km/hr create massive waves that pound the rugged coastline. The whale migration in February and March make it a great time to visit for wildlife aficionados as well. During the offseason, accommodation is often close to half price, making a visit to Tofino a viable and desirable option for many B.C. locals.

Campgrounds: Often beachside, or tucked neatly into the temperate rainforest, camping in Tofino is a true, west coast experience. Just be prepared for the chance of rain (it is a rainforest after all), and cool evenings due to the area’s humidity.

Hostels: Tofino has a number of backpacker’s hostels downtown, which are an affordable option for young travelers looking to meet likeminded peers and keep a handle on their budget.
Hotels: Scattered along the way to, and within downtown, hotels in Tofino are a great family option. Many are on a more affordable scale and each provides all the necessary amenities.
