Fishing Charters Must Do

The best time to fish is now!

For those that are considering fishing on your trip to Tofino, you really should consider coming on a fishing trip. 2016 should be a banner year for catching salmon on the west coast. For those coming early season you likely won’t have to go far whether fishing out of Tofino or Ucluelet. Ocean conditions play a big part of where salmon travel on the way back to their spawning rivers. Also, forecasted runs will have a big impact as well. Both are coming together to make 2016 a year to remember.

Fishing Trends

The trend the past couple summers is for fishing to be great close to shore and so far 2016 is shaping up the same way. That is always a good thing so you don’t have to spend a lot of time traveling to fishing hot spots. We are also seeing an increase in average size Chinook salmon in both Tofino and Ucluelet. Already in the early season we are seeing a good number of fish in the mid teens which means summer time should see even larger fish. It also means the fish returning to rivers early in the summer are choosing the path along the shore. You never really know why fish choose to go in certain areas. It often has to do with bait, temperature of the water, salinity, and acidity. Sometimes there is lots of bait but for some reason the fish don’t come through, so fishing trends are a big deal.
